Hello, when i was 18, i was charged with a second degree misdemeanor of petty theft. I was never arrested or taken to jail. I showed up in court and was referred to pretrial diversion. I moved out of the area and being very stupid and immature i never followed up with the court. Now five years later i searched their docket and found that the case is in capias. i am very concerned this would limit my right to work. It hasn't up to this point, but im afraid a thorough background check would find it. I have been given tickets for speeding but i guess the capias never showed up. I would like to know what is the best way to clear this up? I called the court and they said i need to drive down there and turn myself in, pay the 500$ bond, and would be given another court date. I called an attorney in the area and he wants thousands to get this off my record. Should i turn myself in? will i be fingerprinted, photographed, etc?? i am worried that my further hurt my background, as i may be entered into some other criminal database. Help!! thanks.
