Witness appearance issue

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? CA
In process of contested bifurcation hearing. Don't have a lot of money to fly witnesses back and forth, and Judge has stated that witnesses must appear - be physically present. Is there any way around this? I.E. : appear by phone,etc?

If the judge said that they have to be physically present, then they have to be physically present.

If the judge stated that, even if he is legally wrong (Which I doubt.), an appeal will cost more. So, to the question:

The answer is no. Unless the judge agrees.
