My father recently passed away and I was named the executor of his will. I have been told that in order to open a bank account in our names (so I can handle his finances) I need to open an estate account. To do this I need to file appointment papers (correct?). My question is this... my father died in Ohio, but I live in California. Am I able to apply for these papers in CA or do I have to do so with the courts in OH? Thank you.

you are going to have to probate the estate in Ohio.

Until you open probate or initiate administration, you won't be able to open an estate account anywhere. You are not the executor until the courts accepts your appointment.
