September 2000 I moved from Las Vegas to NY. The company, Bekins was reputable and expensive-$10,000 they also packed all of my belongings. As this was a company paid move I chose full insurance and a full replacement policy. On arrival in NY items from the move were missing and were reported by the movers. On unpacking items were broken. I spoke with the company and they sent paperwork to fill out to file a claim. I did this and returned it to them. Since October 2000 I have tried repeatedly to settle this and have not been able to get any response. When I call I am told someone will call me back. The total amount of the claim is $2000. Is this a case to take to samll claims?
Thank you.

This is not an uncommon complaint... moving companies are fast becoming the scourge of consumers due to their unfair and unscrupulous practices.

In fact, there are numerous complaints about small firms claiming some affiliation with the larger moving companies (Bekins for example). Are you sure your mover really WAS a Bekins agent?? You might want to check with Bekins (http://www.bekinsmoving.com).

And yes, you can certainly take this issue to small claims court, but I would suggest that you formalize your complaint in writing (Certified RRR) first. Also, you might consider looking at the following websites:
