What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Florida

A close friend has been renting a house for about a year now. The water in this house is unconsumable, it is a dark yellow well water. They cannot use the water to wash white clothing at all or else it will stain. It is like pulling teeth to get the LL to replace the salt in the well water treatment system to make the water clearer and to cut the sulfer smell down a little. The least they can do is wash dishes and take a shower, but the LL promised to get someone to replace the broken dishwasher with a replacement in the garage; it has been about 2 months, and still nothing.

They have a 16 year old daugher that has very seldomly became sick before moving into this house. Once moved in there has been several times where she has had to be hospitalized, which doctors do not know the reason for her pain in the lower stomach. Her doctor has diagnosed her two seperate times with sinus infections in the past 3-4 months.

The family seem to think that the visable mold on the mirrors and on the walls in the bathrooms are a cause to the daughter illnesses.

I am trying to help out as best I can, is there any legal actions they can take? for the doctor bills and such if they can prove that the house has mold that is toxic.

They can call the city/ county to learn if they have a water testing regulation or check yellow pages for firms who test water for potability, BTW high iron content , off gassing do not automatically mean the water is not potable. If there is high iron content but water is still with in your states definition of potable then they just may have to live with using iron remover products with the wash . Mold happens , they can report it to LL and take what ever reasonable steps they can to assist reducing moisture in the home like running bath fan for a while after showering. Softner well gotta ask does the lease state the LL is obligated to stock the softner ? or does the lease state the tenant is to stock it?
