What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? NY

I recently received A CPM section 221.15(Criminal Possession of Marijuana in the Fourth Degree). This is my first offense and i have no priors. I was wondering if anyone knows what i can expect, and what are the options that could happen. Also does it matter if i get a court appointed lawyer or pay for one. I am allowed to have a court appointed lawyer since i am currently a full time student that has no income.

Again,
-This is my first offense
-No priors
-Full time student
-And i'm an athlete (I don't know if that will help other than just make me seem like a good kid who's involved in his community and in school)

any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
