I broke up with my fiance about 5 months before the wedding. Her parents paid aprox 2000 dollars, and they said they lost it all. It has been almost a year since we broke up. I think she may be gearing up for some sort of legal action to get half from me. Is there any circumstances in which she can do this?

Thank you

Yes.

An example would be if you promised (verbal or written) to pay for all or part of the cost and reneged on your agreement.
