California..I had an acquaintance's laptop stolen from my vehicle on my property in LA county. I have all the police and Insurance reports for the incident. The other party wants restitution equal to what was paid for the laptop 3 years ago. I have agreed to pay Fair Market Value for the laptop, however, this is unacceptable to the other party and has decided to take this to court. Is there a law (edict, anything) that states what I am required to do by law?

Thanks in Advance.
