When copyrights expire on books? Is it 70 years after the author's death? Are there any exceptions/details to know about when create a product by using digital books?

The copyright.gov is a good link. You'll find a FAQ there with a table on copyright duration. The laws have changed over the past century so it is determined by when the work was created and a few other factors.

It makes no difference if the work was created or is being copied in paper or digital form.
