What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? KY

Hello, a friend and myself are wanting to start a matchmaking service in our area. We are wondering if this service would be considered a business, and if so would we have to adhere to business starting regulations. Also we are wondering how we would go about making a release form for the possible clients to sign, and who would need to review the document? Could we type this form ourselves and have it notarized, or would someone else need too?

Any help at all or any additional recources would be much appreciated.

Thank you! What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

If you solicit money from people, it's a business. If nothing else there is going to be tax implications on your business proceeds. At least it appears in Kentucky you don't need to collect sales tax on this service.

What sort of "release" form are you envisioning? If you think you're going to need such, you will definitely need the help of a lawyer to craft something that would be useful to you.

As for other business requirements, you might check to see if there are any small business assistance in your area. Often the public libraries can help you with that. Googling "Kentucky Small Business" will also point you at some resources.
