What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? IL

I was wondering if there is anything I can do as a 29 year old inquiring for my mother who was owed back child support for my biological father. He moved and she never followed up with the case she had opened against him. He has since passed away and I was wondering if there is anything I can do.

Thanks in advance,
Josh

she can file a claim against his estate when his estate is presented for probate. Whether it will be paid or not is another question,

there is nothing you can do yourself. your mother can hire an attorney to check on the status of the order if it's still valid. she can then have that attorney check to see if your father had any assets to put a lien on.

Was there ever actually a court order issued to pay child support?

Does he even have any assets that will pass through probate?

Unfortunately my brother and I never met him. He left and moved to Florida. I do not know of any of his assets. I am going through the papers right now but according to my mother he was ordered to pay and never did. She gave up on the process of chasing him a while ago. He would move around alot.

How long ago did he die? Has anyone opened probate (have you checked the state court system to see if his county has probate cases shown online)?
