finding copyright registration number

how can i find the registration number to a book that was never published?

i have the LC barcode number but the actual certificate of registration was lost in a flood.

And this link to Circular 22 provides you with information on registration of works and doing a search: http://www.copyright.gov/circs/circ22.pdf.

The Copyright Office can do a search for you for a fee, but if the work was registered, it should not be difficult to locate with the title and author.

Do you know the date, or approximate date, of registration?

i do have an approimate date but i do not have the registration number.
i am certain that the book was submitted to the library of congress but the paper work was lost during a flood. i have checked the website but i could not find what i was looking for. the but was submitted but never published, could that be a reason why it was not on the website?
