I am a Canadian student attending school in Alabama. I was in Tennessee and was given 2 tickets - speeding and expired licence. My licence is Canadian but my tags are from Alabama (in my name). The cop took my licence and my id - they are not the same thing where I am from - and will not give them back until I pay my fines. I cannot afford the fines and since I don't have a licence I can't drive to Tennessee to go to court. (Alabama won't issue me a licence without a valid Canadian licence and I'm having some unrelated problems attaining a new Canadian licence - ex roomate charged a bunch of tickets to my licence and I have to prove that they aren't my tickets. lovely eh?). If I don't pay or show and a warrant is issued, what can happen? Can they extradite me? What are my options?
