Many on line publications allow for comment posting with their articles. When a publication blocks a comment, isn't that a 1st Amendment violation?

No. It isn't. It is a site owner exercising editorial control over the contents posted to their site. Perfectly legal.

Your question, by the way, is one that is asked often as there appears to be a common confusion over what the First Amendment actually says and what it means. In other words, you are not alone in questioning your rights under the First.
