Hi - anyone here know what the rights of a Board member of a national social club (tax exempt) are around seeing individual expense request receipts? The expense receipts were from last year and a previous Board. The current Board had no involvement in any of the checks written to cover those expenses. The current treasurer will not copy all those receipts as they contain credit card numbers, personal unlisted phone numbers, etc. The person requesting copies of those receipts lives across the country so sitting down together isn't a solution. The treasure is happy to (and actually has already) given out the amounts of all checks and to whom they checks were written as well as what expenses the check covered. The Board member continues to demand to see copies of the receipts themselves and claims it's their right as a Board member. There is nothing in our bylaws that directs the treasurer to do anything other than report financial transactions - nor is there anything in the bylaws that directs a Board member to investigate what a previous Board has done financially. HELP?

Typically Board Members have no rights as such. If the Board authorized the member to investigate that's different.

Vis-a-vis the national, it would be necessary to see what the documents actually say, but as a practical matter, if the local does not cooperate, the national can end the affiliation.
