17 year old son

I live in Colorado, and have sole custody of my 17 year old son who will be 18 on August 24. I sent him to live with his father about 6 weeks ago, due to extreme difficulties with him. As of Wednesday, his dad allowed him to move out into an apartment with some 18 year old friends. What are my legal obligations to him and for what may I be held responsible? Should I go through some emancipation process or what would be the correct procedure?
