A film/video/multimedia company needs advice on collecting $ from 2 different companies. In both cases, my company produced a product (TV program/Sales CD-ROM project), the companies signed off on the final project but have not paid the final payments. We have been more they patient, writing letters requesting payments, called to pursue partial payments, tried to resolve disputed matters, etc... Basically nothing has worked. We have a signed contract from one of the companies, and drafts of contracts and correspondence (while we produced and finalized the TV program)from the other company. There is so much more, but that is the bottom line. If we sue can we go through a small claims without a lawyer? What is the cap for small claims? What can I do to push this through and get results?

The amount you can sue them for in small claims court varies from state to state and sometimes from city to city. Call the small claims court and ask. The big issue is that if the firm is out of town, some small claims courts lack jurisdiction.
