Can your employer (in NYS) not cover you with disability insurance? A co-worker of mine was diagnosed with Lukemia 1 month ago and has not been able to work since the diagnosis due to ongoing treatment. She has asked our employer several times for disability papers in order to file a cliam and he keeps stalling. We work in a small office and he employs only a few people. (a doctor no less!)

We called the State and they can find no policy issued through them, but we have no way to find out if he has a private policy. For a while, he stopped taking DBL deductions out of paychecks until someone noticed and then he started again. My friend has worked for this man for 13 years and could really use the income right now. Do you have any advice?
