illegal fireworks

California, My son age 18 was arrested for 2 bottle rockets. Should he get a lawyer? If he does not what is likely to happen when he goes to court?

It all depends on his prior criminal history. The severity of the charges brought against him, possibility/availability of diversion or delayed sentencing programs and the opportunity to plea bargain.
