a family member was cited for petty theft. she had purchased some items from the store already , but went back through the store to find some forgotten items. looking at her receipt for the items purchased earlier from the same store she strolled too close to the exit door and was stopped by security. The lady asked for a receipt for the non bagged items and my family member replied she still needed to pay for those items. the security lady detained her and escorted her back to the holding area where she was cited by the local police for petty theft. She hadn't even left the store. will this charge hold? can she fight it ? and what is the penalty for something like this???
