does anyone know about laser radar, and the ability to do daily calibrations? i know that doppler shift radar uses a tuning fork to calibrate the equipment. i live in utah. I was allegedly speeding 51 in a 35 mph zone. heavy friday evening traffic on the boulevard. any help would be greatly appreciated.

A Lidar (laser radar) unit is taken to a measured course and calibrated using signs at known distances. If the sign distance reading is within departmental parameters, then the unit passes calibration and is put in service. Additionally, the Lidar unit has an internal calibration and diagnostic mode that is checked daily (and can be manually checked by the officer).
