My nephews had their four-wheeler stolen off of their property. The neighbor saw someone ride it past her house at a high rate of speed and later identified him from a yearbook. They put up color posters of it and finally someone called the sheriff to report seeing the 4 wheeler being unloaded. The sheriff called to say that he found the person that stole it but hadn't found the four- wheeler. My brother wants to know if there is a way to receive compensation from the thief if they don't find the 4-wheeler. They live in Ohio.

Yes there is. Most likely they have theft insurance. That would cover it.

If they do not have theft insurance, they can sue the thief for the value of the vehicle or the return of the vehicle, with compensation for wear and tear. Better yet, possibly the court in the criminal action will order the thief to make restitution (pay them the value of the vehicle or return it).
