In the state of Washington if I have sole custody of our child and something happens to me. Will custody go to who I appoint, such as my parents. Or will it go to the childs father?

My response:

In the absence of some background information or facts you purposefully decided not to tell us about the father, the child will ONLY go to the father. Parents are ALWAYS first in line to obtain custody of their own child under a fact situation as you have currently presented it.

It doesn't matter if you write your wishes in a Will, or have an agreement with a third party; e.g., your parents, a friend, or otherwise. You cannot negate the rights of a parent on your own. Only a court can do that.
