Florida, I am a counselor involved in a 504 predicament. A child tested DNQ for exceptional education but was determined eligible for 504 under learning deficit. He was given remedial services in a regular classroom but showed no improvement. It was then determined by 504 team, the best services could be provided through the Exceptional Ed department with certified ESE teachers. The county states this is not an option. He cannot be provided the exceptional education service and must stay in the regular classroom. Is this the case? Is a 504 child not allowed service from the exceptional education department for remediation outside the regular ed classroom?
