Is there an informal business arrangement, i.e. marketing alliance, that will allow two small companies to approach a market? One of us has a need and one has the software, and we are both systems integration firms.

You sound as if you are thinking of a joint venture or quasi-partnership. There may be no need for a separate legal entity to start.

It is always a GREAT idea to spell out the basic terms in a memo of understanding so that if there are future issues there is a framework for resolving them, and even better if the key issues were thought thru in advance.
