My husband and I bought a used 97 Taurus a few years ago. In August of this year the transmission stopped working and we spent about $2500 to repair it. In September, we were on a trip and the same problem happened again. The local dealership couldn't find what was wrong, and the dealership that "reparied" it the first time replaced a part that they supposedly replaced the first time. We did not get charged because the dealership has a year warranty on any parts they serviced. This weekend we were in Minnesota and the same problem occurred again. What legal rights do we have? Can we demand that they install a brand new transmission instead of trying to fix the problem again without cost to us? Should we bring a lawsuit against them or Ford Company? We owe too much money on the car to trade it in, so we feel we're stuck with a totally unreliable car that is only 3 years old and has only 85,000 miles on it. Any advice would be helpful!
