How can I endorse I check I received as partial payment for the sale of a business without implying acceptance of the new payment schedule the buyer has proposed. I live in New York State but the business was incorporated and operated out of California. Thanks.

Is there a restrictive endorsement on the check (Paid in full, Settlement of Debt, etc.)??

If not, there is no link between the check and a separate letter.

In any case, if there is a restriction ON the check, you have to decide on rejecting the check and returning it or to draw a line through it and write "Reservation of Rights" and process as normal.
