In or around 1995 I contracted to rent a NYS armory drill hall for a live concert/dance promotion. I gave a deposit on the facility, and the show went on as scheduled. However, it was not sucessfull and had to end early. I did not make enough cash to pay the other half of the contract. I was contacted by the state regarding the pass due amount, at that time I sent a letter claiming a hardship, and that I could not pay the remaining balance. I did not hear from anyone until about one week ago Oct. 2000! What legal course can I take to resolve this judgement?

I have been unemployed since 1998 due to a medical disability and do not have the funds to resolve this case.

If the statute of limitations has run, you're in luck, because if they sue you you plead that and win.

If it has not you have to try to compromise it out. Get a lawyer in NY to help you. It is a general business matter, and look under General Practice on AttorneyPages.com.

Thanks, ALawyer for your speedy response. i will have to find out what the statue of limitations for this type of case. I will also look into attaining a lawyer to help me.

When I call Albany to speak with the civil prosecution specialist. He said that they had no way of contacting me. No current address, or job address. However, in the same breath he stated that they served a garnishment on my 1997 income tax. If they were able to do that, why could they not contact me since I had been at the same job since 1996, and the same adress since 1995?

Beside, how were they able address me now to send me this current letter?

Someone is lying.
