Hello everyone,

I work at a private Doctors office in Illinois. We are a new business and are wondering about Thanksgiving. What we are being told is that the office will be closed the day after Thanksgiving and that we will not be getting paid for that day. Which means that we will have to use a personal day. Isn't there a law that states that an employer cannot force an employee to take a personal/vacation day just because the office is closed. Shouldn't they pay us? We are all waiting for a reply. Thank you in advance for any help on this matter.

No, there is no statutory requirement to pay you for a 'closed office' day. This falls entirely to the discretion of the employer.
