I am a divorced woman in Kansas with four children, three from the previous marriage. My significant other (and father of my last child) and I would like to be married, but he has some child support problems from his previous marriage. He is trying to sort them out through the state systems (they involve two states), but we no longer wish to wait. How can we keep things separate so she cannot touch my income, our tax return (they took all of his erroneously last year), and my property (house, car, etc)? Do we need a prenuptial agreement (and will that hold up)? Must we file taxes separately?
