My boyfriend was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon (bar glass happened to be in his hand). It is his first time ever getting in trouble. At the time he was extremely drunk and does not remember any of it. He is NOT a violent person and this is quite a shock. He is going to AA now and there is no threat of him ever doing this kind of thing again.
Does anyone have any idea how these types of cases go? In terms of sentencing?

It totally depends on the state or county that arrested him. You should get a criminal defense attorney to represent you. Maybe your lawyer can get them to drop the charges. there's a directory of attorneys on this web site or contact the local public defender's office.
