Does a police officer have the right to just walk right in to somones house when the person is still in bed? His reasoning was that he was checking to see if the power had been turned off, because if it was, then it would constitute child endangerment. There was one child in the house (age 14) who was the daughter of a friend who needed a place to stay for a few days. His electricity had been shut off at his own house. Our electricity had been shut off the previous day.

Usually a police officer may not enter a home without a search warrant or consent of the presumed owner/occupant unless there's an "exigent circumstance". Please read the section on "arrests and searches" on the "criminal law" section on this website's home page to get more information on your question. I would retain a criminal defense attorney and move to suppress the evidence if you have been arrested (or are facing arrest) based on what the police saw.
