A friend of mine has been given a summons to appear in court (NY City) for urinating in public. Is that a misdemeanor? What kind of penalty may he expected?

Thanks for your help.

A misdemeanor is subject to punishment of less than 1 year (or 6 months in some places) in jail; felonies are subject to 1 year or greater. I'd guess it's a misdemeanor offense with a possible punishment of fine, community service, and/or several days in jail. Ask the local police department or DA's inforamtion officer to find out for sure.
