vermont education laws are under the title of act 60. You are boken up into giving and receiving towns based upon property value. for example, any money needed beyond our block grant provided by the state must first have a portion of it sent to "needy towns". The receiving towns have unlimited budget as any request is met at the expense of the sending town. we too are members of a supervisory union. there are , however, several nearby towns who are not union members. it cost an average of 3 thousand dollars per student less for them to send their children to the same school and receive the same services as union members. these non union towns also have school choice, where as they can use their block grant to help defray the cost of sending their child to a private school. a public meeting in which we sought becoming a non union town has turned heads at the state level. they don't want to see us pull out of the union. they have gone as far as to now present us with new and over inflated fees claiming these are the real numbers as far as cost go. can they just change the numbers like that ? these cost for services have been posted and publically voted upon at town meeting. where do i seek help in this matter when the state has clearly indicated they intend to keep us as part of the union? our taxes keep going up and our own children are suffering. our school has to borrow books from a receveing town to teach our students because as a sending town we are unable to by our own!!!
