I work as a teacher for a Public School system in southeastern Michigan. We have been working without a contract for 2 years now. The school district is in financial trouble. Can the district cut teachers salaries as they wish? There have also been incidents of teachers trying to cash their pay checks only to be told that there are "non suficient funds" is this legal? Who do I contact in Michigan to handle this problem?

In the absence of a contract, an employer may cut salaries. However, they may not bounce paychecks, with or without a contract. You talk to the state Department of Labor, Wage and Hour division.
