Can someone tell me if there are any consumer laws requiring the billng company give you a reasonable time to pay the bill?

Our postal service has slowed dramatically since the anthrax threat and letters, bill notifications, etc are taking days to get delivered.

Many companies state that the bill has to reach them by the due date otherwise you get assessed a late fee. What can you do if you get the bill and only have less than a week until the due date?
