I am starting a Marketing Consultancy from my home office in Monmouth County New Jersey. The state and county have been very vague in their answers to my questions. I am a sole proprietorship. Do I need to register in any way, shape or form with the state or federal or local governments? What type of registration?
Thank you.

This is a question you shauld take to your accountant.

There often are local laws that apply. Do you need a business license? Ask the county or city.

Do you have employees? If so, you'd need to provide for taxes, unemplyment, disability, etc.
