Wooster, OH-

Was taken for $402 in a fraudulent internet action earlier this year. This was a confirmed fraud- a number of complaints were submitted to the same user, as well as to local authorities in the seller's area. I have also filed a complaint with the IFCC.

Proof of loss. No money was recovered. I can file this under the "Theft and Casualty" deductions, yes?

Thank you,

You are correct. This is a theft loss and you can deduct it on Part A of Form 4684, Casualties and Thefts. It becomes an itemized deduction.
