Tax Year - 2001

I moved during 2001 (self-paid). What do I need to send with my tax return in order to deduct it? Is the receipt enough?

I went to university full-time, starting Sept. 2001. I paid $6650 total for the sept-April school year. Can I deduct it all or just the portion for classes from sept to dec? What do I need as proof? I attended a Canadian university that gave me a T2202A, but can a receipt from the university be used instead?

Thanks,
SLF

Moving expense is only deductible in certain situations when a person moves to a new place of employment. It is not deductible by a student.

You probably qualify for a tax credit for the tuition and books. To find out all the rules, get IRS Publication 4, STUDENT’S GUIDE TO FEDERAL INCOME TAX, which you can download for free at the IRS site at: http://www.irs.ustreas.gov/forms_pubs/index.html
