I am from Kansas. I'm curious as to what I could be charged with if I dated a minor under 16 and her parents did not know. There would be No sexual activity. Just dating. Is there anything illegal that can come from this? Kansas law states: "Any lewd fondling or touching of the person of either the child or the offender, done or submitted to with the intent to arouse or to satisfy the sexual desires of either the child or the offender, or both." - Statute 21-3503, Chapter 21, Article 35. Now, If I keep the relationship purely platonic, and her parents found out that we were seeing each other, can they charge me with anything?

-Just playing it safe
p.s. Her parents do NOT want her dating, so I hesitate before doing anything.

My response:

So, you like playing with fire? All it takes is an allegation that you touched her, and you're history. Do you really believe that a jury will believe your testimony that the relationship was "purely platonic"?

And besides, let's assume that you are found "not guilty" - - imagine how much money and worry you'll spend trying to defend criminal charges.

Oh, you're going to do it anyway.
