My husband and I live in Batesville, AR, where our 21 year old son resides with us. Friday evening my son went to Tunica, Mississippi, with a friend. They were arrested in Hernando, Mississippi and incarcerated. My son was charged with possession of chemicals to manufacture and felony possession of a controlled substance. My son claims that he knew nothing of the contraband that was in the rented vehicle of his friend. (Of course, I know this may or may not be true!). His bond is $510,000 and his 1st appearance in court is August 18. Now for my question: How should we go about obtaining an attorney for our son? Should we hire one from Hernando, Mississippi or obtain one in Arkansas. How do we find a good one? Please offer any other advice that may be helpful.

My response:
You should hire a criminal defense attorney in Mississippi. Call the State Bar of Mississippi for a referral to an attorney and consultation.
