I've read where mileage can be deducted if traveling between two or more jobs. My husband is in the Navy and the base he is stationed at is 50 miles from home. He then has a second job in the private sector that is 15 miles from home in the opposite direction. Can this mileage be deducted and what documentation is needed if any? It added up to quite a bit so this would put a big dent in our tax bill!!

From the facts you give, your husband could deduct the mileage for the trips he takes from one job to the other because a deduction is allowed for the ordinary and necessary costs of getting from one workplace to another in the course of his business or profession when he traveling within the city or general area that is his tax home.

For the details of the deduction and the necessary record keeping see IRS Publication 17, Your Federal Income Tax, which you can download for free at the IRS site at: http://www.irs.ustreas.gov/forms_pubs/index.html
