What is the name of your state? California.

I served my defendant about a month before our court date. He informed me via email that he just filed for a continuance. This is a burden for me -- he owes me a bunch of money I had set aside for rent, and the longer we wait the more upset my rental office becomes.


Is the court likely to grant the continuance? Can I send a letter of protest?

Yep, you can certainly file a response to their motion.

Your making a pretty bold move using the potential of winning a lawsuit as a guarantee of income?

The contract that we had (before he broke it and i sued him) was the guaranteed income.
