We had taken our car to a local mechanic for repairs. We picked the car up at 12 noon on 7/20 and paid him with a check, $333.00. By 5 pm that day, the car had caught fire and was a total loss. At the scene, the fire marshall said that he believed the fire started in the fuel system, but we are waiting on his final report. The fuel system is part of what the mechanic repaired. We contacted the mechanic and he said that he did not believe what he worked on would have caused the fire, however, we did stop payment on that check until we have heard the final reports. Do we have the right to ask that he pay the value of our car, plus lost wages because my husband had to miss work the night of the fire and compensation for the incovenience of not having a car(this was our only vehicle)?
Thank you,
Kelly Thomas
