What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Texas

I have always thought that the maximum a person could seek in small claims is $5k. I heard today that that maximum has increased but don't know to what amount, if it's even true.

I loaned a friend $7k; she has only paid me $500. I do have it on paper where she wrote me a letter stating that she owes me the remaining $6,500. It has been almost two years since she has paid me anything.

Can anybody tell me if the max amount has increased or if it's still the same? I appreciate anything that anyone can tell me.

Thank you,
Kristi
