What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Texas

Hey, I'm 16 and don't know if this is the right place to ask this but...

Last week in school, I was in the orchestra room as that's my first period. While I was talking to my friend, someone (don't know who) put headphones on my head. I shook them off and they fall to the floor (maybe a 2ft drop?) and they break (the band snapped in half). I later get called to the office and am told that these are $300 headphones (Beats? I don't know. I also don't get how $300 headphones break from a 2ft fall.) and the owner didn't consent to anyone taking them. Am I liable for the full damages or is the person who took them, or is this a 50/50 thing?

I don't see how you could be responsible for anything. You had something placed on your head without your permission and you removed it. Don't agree to pay for anything and tell them to call your parents if they feel the need to discuss the matter any more.

The parents of the owner should be suing the parents of the thief. You're not involved.

Ah, thanks for the reply. In the event that the parents of the headphones' owners sues me, would I need a lawyer or could I easily represent myself?
