What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? TN

A large company that a friend used to work for terminated him about 6 months ago. They had an advertising sign with his name and phone number on it up in the city where he is am from. This sign is a seasonal sign and it was put back up about 4 months ago by the company that handles putting up the sign. He told them when they fired him to stop all ads with his name on them. The problem I have with this is they are gaining business using his name. His old phone number on the sign now rings to a new sales rep for the company. He used to get alot of sales from similar advertising signs. They finally took it down recently after he contacted them numerous times. He now works for their competitor and this has probably lost him business. Could he sue them for this? If they got one sale by using his name it would make the company on average about 5-7K over the contact period.
