What is the name of your state? Missouri

I loaned an ex of mine a little over $1600 dollars to help him pay his bills. I didn't loan it to him all at once, but a little at a time. He promised to pay me back. We broke up and he paid me $200 of it back. But, it has probably been six months since I have seen any more money from him and I was wondering if I would have a case. I don't have any written contract and all the evidence I have is the ATM receipts from when I took out the money, and mutual friends that witnessed me giving him the money and him promising to pay me back. I don't know how this stuff works, I just need my money back and was hoping maybe this was a path I could try to take.
