cell phone company mistake

i went through a cellphone company to get a cell phone i signed an contract to have my service with att. I paid 400 dollars cash deposit on march 26,2004 on april 16 ,04 att shut off my service saying i never paid the deposit and then they charged me 200 for cancellation,when i went to the cellphone dealer they couldnt find my contract but i have my copy and the guy who sold me the phone told me that my contract acts as my receipt. i have tried to get this fixed but i keep getting the run around do i have a case to sue and if so what should i sue for?
