What is the name of your state? MD
I got a cell phone for a friend and he now owes me over $2,000 on a bill that covered two months. Do I have to pay off that bill myself before I take him to court?

Q: Do I have to pay off that bill myself before I take him to court?

A: It is your bill and you owe it. But if you think someone else owes it, go ahead and sue them. The sooner the better. That lawsuit does not mean, however, that you can stop paying on a bill you agreed to pay.
